Pregnancy Care / Pre Natal Care

Pregnancy is a very exciting time

Unfortunately, during pregnancy, Low Back Pain is very common. And with pain medication not a valid option, many women turn to Chiropractic as a drug free, safe and effective method to combat the discomfort that often accompanies pregnancy.
Chiropractic Care during the Pre Natal phase is where a lot of expectant mothers find relief from discomfort and the empowerment that comes with regaining control over their body.

As the Pre Natal female body changes, the physical stress may cause pain. The most common pain is Pelvic Pain. The Sacroiliac Joints and the Pubic Synthesis go through functional and structural changes. The rigidity of the joints change as more progesterone is produced. Progesterone has the effect of creating more flexibility in the ligaments and joints.

Other structural changes are to the posture. An increase in Lumbar Lordosis or sway-back is one change as the body adjusts to combat gravity. An unfortunate side effect of this change is again discomfort.

Harris Chiropractic may help! James uses tried and tested methods for Pre Natal Care including Webster Technique to return normal function to the Lumbar and Pelvic Joints.

James the Chiro will often reflect that perhaps the most satisfying facet of his job is the assistance he can give to the expectant mum to help and prepare her for the the birth. Along with treatment, the advice, encouragement and support he can render maybe just as important as he guides mum and baby through the 3 trimesters. James is very experienced in Pre Natal Care and can offer great insights into what to expect. Having been there to see his three children born is also a great part to his experience.

Does Chiropractic reduce labour times? Well… there is some suggestion that this is the case however, having a pelvis that is in the best possible condition, certainly could help!

There is sometimes concern about health professionals exerting pressure to have a ‘Natural Birth’. James will fully support any decision his patient makes; from a scheduled C-Section to a Home-Birth. The most important thing in the end is a healthy baby and mother!

Post Natal Care is often more advice than treatment but mothers can feel free to call James at anytime for help, advice or support.
