Shoulder Pain

Chiropractors are University trained professionals and are perfectly positioned to diagnose and treat all conditions of the neck and shoulders

Shoulder pain is becoming more common in Australia and is mostly thought to be due to our increased reliance on technology and the resulting poor posture which often accompanies its use. Poor posture may create a condition like Upper Cross Syndrome however poor posture may also be part of a more complicated and serious problem.

Bursitis, Facet Joint Syndrome or Nerve Pain like Radicular Pain, coming from the neck are all conditions that may accompany poor posture. However these conditions cannot be effectively treated by exercise or muscle work alone.

Bursitis is a very common condition of the shoulders. Bursitis can be very painful and make activities and even sleeping difficult. Chiropractic is very effective in treating Bursitis because Chiropractic focuses on returning the joints and muscles to healthy function. Other modalities like massage and physio will often only treat muscles and offer exercises to ‘manage’ the condition. Harris Chiropractic will seek to get a result and pain free movement before offering exercises to maintain the healthy state.

More

Facet Joint Syndrome and the associated Referred Pain is an example of a condition that requires attention be directed to the joints. Although the pain is coming from the neck, it is felt in the muscles of the shoulders. People will often get their shoulders ‘massaged’ regularly for years but only get temporary results. Worse than only getting temporary relief is that over time the episodes of pain will often steadily get more frequent and more severe.

Radicular Pain, especially of the neck and shoulders, is a more serious condition. Again the pain is coming from the neck but is felt in the shoulders or arms. In some cases of Radicular Pain the problem will progress even further to pins & needles or numbness in the hands. And again this is another condition that is often treated with a ‘neck/shoulder rub’ when a Chiro may well be the perfect fit to address the problem.
